Iowa International Center

Iowa International Center is a nonprofit organization in Des Moines that strives to enrich lives and create pathways to prosperity for immigrants and refugees who make Iowa their home. The organization works to fulfill this mission by providing programs and services that build international understanding and bridge the gap between Iowans and the world. As IIC’s marketing and communications intern, I helped spread their mission through engaging owned content across several media channels and a wide variety of projects. Social Media

At IIC, my biggest responsibility was managing its three main social media platforms: Instagram, Facebook and X (Twitter). Every day, I created original graphics using Canva and wrote captions that aligned with the nonprofit's mission and values. Post topics ranged from webinar promotions and organization updates to community highlights and cultural celebrations.

Print Media

Some of the IIC projects I am most proud of working on include IIC’s 2021 impact report graphic and promotional flyers for two new events: Spice Fest and Global Citizens Travel Seminar to Belfast. My work on these projects involved organizing data and copy into visually pleasing layouts, conducting research and creating organic copy and independently designing the flyers using Canva.

Blogs

While helping with IIC’s monthly e-newsletter, I had the opportunity to write a few blogs. These include a community spotlight about a woman business owner in honor of Women’s History Month; an intern alumni update blog that advertises IIC’s summer internship program; and a Passport to Prosperity 20th anniversary blog highlighting the accomplishments of past honorees to promote the opening of 2022 award nominations (learn about Passport to Prosperity here).
